Cited chiefly in Trewavas's own 2025 rebuttal as a compendium of evidence for plant and microbial intelligence. The rebuttal points to it for bacterial intelligence (pp201-210), adaptive plant responses to environmental imbalances, further examples of plant memory (p274), protein-kinase neural networks (chapter 23), and McClintock's view of the cell as master of the genome (chapter 21). Lyon cites it for the claim that prediction in animals and plants rests on memory and learning.
Primary evidence for bacterial intelligence is to be found in Trewavas (2014. p201-210)

In all animals and plants (Trewavas, 2014), the ability to predict is predicated on memory and learning
Lyon P, 2015 · The cognitive cell: bacterial behavior reconsidered · open at passage 69
Adaptive behaviours in plants are induced during imbalances in water supplies, light, gravity, minerals, predation, wind, stressful temperatures, predation, amongst others (Trewavas 2014)
